University administrators across Nigeria's South East zone gathered in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Thursday for a four day training workshop organised by the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators, with the national president using the occasion to press for sustained capacity building across the country's tertiary institutions.
Victor Bem, National President of ANUPA, told participants that structured training of this nature would strengthen service delivery in universities and contribute to broader institutional effectiveness. He described the workshop as designed to equip administrators with the skills to lead with vision, integrity, and foresight.
The workshop is themed "Advancing University Resilience Through Effective Strategic Governance, Administrative Excellence and Institutional Sustainability."
Declaring the event open, the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Ursula Akanwa, described the theme as well suited to the demands of the current digital era. She urged participants to use the opportunity to rethink their approaches, rebuild their competencies, and reposition themselves for greater institutional impact.
National Public Relations Officer Onyinye Ralph Nwachukwu called on members to uphold hard work, dedication, and accountability in their roles. She also noted that the training was decentralised across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones to make attendance more accessible to administrators in different parts of the country.
Acting Chairman of the ANUPA branch at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Christian Ekpo, expressed appreciation to participants for their contributions and advocated for the workshop to be held on a regular basis.
