The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko in Ondo State has embarked on an indefinite strike over the non payment of lecturers' salaries for May and June 2026.

Comrade Bolu Oshodi, Chairperson of ASUU AAUA, disclosed in a notice that the industrial action took effect at 11:59 pm on Friday, July 10, following a resolution reached at the Union's congress held the same day.

The Congress reaffirmed earlier resolutions passed on April 28 and June 18, 2026, directing members to withdraw their services until the outstanding salaries are settled, according to the notice.

Oshodi described the action as total, comprehensive, and indefinite, stressing that it would remain in force until the University authorities and the Ondo State Government clear the salary arrears.

“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive, and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the notice read.

The Union maintained that lecturers would not resume academic activities until both May and June salaries are fully paid, a position expected to disrupt lectures, student supervision, meetings, and other official duties at the state owned Institution.

ASUU AAUA further revealed that the Union's National Visitation Team would visit the branch on Monday, July 13, to brief members on the implementation of the 2025 agreement signed between ASUU and the Federal Government and to gather feedback from the branch.

The strike has also cast uncertainty over the University's academic calendar, with students originally scheduled to begin second semester examinations on July 20. Those examinations now face likely postponement unless the salary dispute is resolved before the scheduled date.
