The National Automotive Design and Development Council has received a high level delegation from Bayero University, Kano, at its headquarters in Abuja, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to expanding collaboration on electric vehicle and compressed natural gas technologies.
The visit, led by the university's Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, Professor Amina, centred on enhancing the utilisation of the NADDC Electric Vehicle Charging Station and Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centre established at the university to promote research, innovation and practical engineering education.
Amina expressed appreciation to the council for selecting Bayero University as a beneficiary of the intervention, noting that the institution's Department of Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering Programme provided a suitable environment for the facilities.
She said the centre would strengthen teaching, research, innovation, and hands on learning for students, adding that Bayero University was determined to become one of Nigeria's leading institutions through strategic partnerships supported by modern facilities and active student engagement.
To improve the impact and sustainability of the project, the university requested that the council upgrade the EV charging station to accommodate electric cars, tricycles, and motorcycles, noting that electric and CNG powered vehicles were becoming an integral part of Nigeria's transportation system.
Prof Amina also proposed the establishment of a standard automobile maintenance workshop at the centre, urged the council to designate Bayero University as a regional NADDC training centre for engineering institutions across Northern Nigeria, and called for stronger collaboration to expand Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme placements and practical training opportunities for engineering students.
Responding, the NADDC Director General, Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin, welcomed the delegation and commended the university's commitment to deepening collaboration with the council, describing the partnership as a strategic initiative that would support automotive research, technological innovation, skills development, and human capital growth within Nigeria's automotive sector.
