Summit University, Offa, has described as entirely false viral reports claiming that bandits attacked its campus, abducted students, and caused loss of lives, warning that the deliberate spread of such misinformation poses a direct threat to the welfare of its students and the integrity of the Institution.
The disclaimer was issued on Tuesday by the University's Acting Registrar, Mustapha A. Kadiri, who stated that there had been no security breach of any kind on campus, contrary to what was circulating on social media. The management said academic and administrative activities are proceeding normally, with the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session running on schedule.
The University described the reports as a "deliberate attempt to cause confusion" and urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information on digital platforms. Parents and guardians were specifically advised to rely only on official communication channels from the institution for updates on campus safety and activities.
The statement comes at a time when security concerns around Nigerian campuses have been heightened by real incidents at other institutions, including the armed robbery attacks on student hostels at Ekiti State University and the hostel evacuation ordered at the University of Jos following the Plateau State security crisis. In that environment, false reports of campus attacks carry particular weight and can cause genuine distress for the families of students enrolled at the affected institution.
Summit University said its security measures remain robust and that the campus continues to provide a safe and functional learning environment. It reiterated that no student, staff member, or member of the University community was harmed, and that the claims circulating online bear no relationship to the situation on the ground.
For students, parents, and prospective applicants, the message from the University is straightforward: verify before you share, and treat official Institutional channels as the only reliable source of information when campus safety is in question.
