The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has alerted the public to a fraudulent press release circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle Today Saturday, JAMB categorically denied issuing any notice regarding the postponement of the examination.

"Our attention has been drawn to the malicious press release, stating that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. The general public, particularly the candidates, are by this notice informed that the press release is fake and did not emanate from us. Kindly disregard it," the Board stated.

JAMB Debunks Fake 2026 UTME Postponement Notice, Urges Public to Disregard Fraudulent Document

The fake document, which has been widely shared across various platforms, bears JAMB's official letterhead and purports to announce the postponement of the examination originally scheduled for April 2026 to August 2026. The fraudulent notice, dated 1st April 2026, carries a large "FAKE" watermark and appears designed to mislead unsuspecting candidates and parents.

JAMB's swift response comes amidst ongoing registration for the 2026 UTME, which commenced on 26th January and is scheduled to close on 26th February 2026, with the Board maintaining a firm stance against any extension of the registration deadline.

The examination body has consistently warned candidates and stakeholders to rely solely on information from its official communication channels, including its verified website and social media accounts, to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

This development highlights the persistent challenge of misinformation and fake news targeting Nigerian students and parents during critical examination periods.

JAMB has urged all candidates to remain focused on completing their registration within the stipulated timeframe and to verify any information regarding the examination through official JAMB portals before taking action.

The Board has not indicated any changes to the current examination schedule and expects the 2026 UTME to proceed as planned.
