The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for policies and programmes he says have improved the welfare of Nigerians.
Avidime singled out the Nigeria Education Loan Fund for commendation, calling it a landmark intervention that has widened access to higher education, while also applauding the First Lady's humanitarian initiatives directed at women and other vulnerable groups.
The Rector made these remarks on the sidelines of the First Lady's one day working visit to Kogi State, during which she commissioned several key projects and flagged off an empowerment programme benefiting more than 2,000 women across the state.
A statement issued by the Polytechnic's acting coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, quoted Avidime as noting that the Federal Government's education and social investment programmes were making a tangible difference for many Nigerian families.
During her visit, Senator Tinubu, accompanied by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other dignitaries, commissioned the modern Kogi State Pension and Treasury House and launched the National Community Food Bank at the Government House, Lokoja, an initiative aimed at strengthening food security and supporting vulnerable households.
The Rector also mobilised members of the Polytechnic community to join the reception for the First Lady, with students turning out in large numbers to welcome her through cultural displays, songs, drumbeats and trumpet performances.
He remarked that the enthusiastic turnout reflected the institution's support for government programmes geared towards improving citizens' welfare and promoting sustainable development.
Avidime further commended the First Lady for her compassion and commitment to humanitarian service, observing that her visit demonstrated a shared dedication to improving the quality of life of Nigerians. He also congratulated Governor Ododo and Kogi State's First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, for hosting Senator Tinubu, commending the state government's commitment to infrastructure development, human capital development and good governance.
