Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended seven lecturers as the Institution moves to investigate widening allegations of sex for marks, cultism and other misconduct on campus.

Six of the lecturers were suspended over the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while a seventh was suspended following allegations of sexual harassment, the Institution's spokesperson, John Onimisi, disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja.

"Six lecturers on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, were suspended by the management of the institution for the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while a lecturer was also suspended for alleged sexual harassment," the statement partly read.

The suspensions come amid mounting concern over alleged sexual harassment, cult related activities and other forms of indiscipline at the Polytechnic.

Sources within the institution alleged that some lecturers had been demanding sexual favours or money from female students in exchange for passing grades, while cult activities had reportedly resurfaced on campus.

One source claimed that disciplinary measures introduced by the previous administration had weakened, emboldening erring staff and students.

The source further alleged that female students who reported incidents of harassment had received little institutional support and were instead subjected to intimidation.

Other allegations included the resumption of nocturnal cult meetings on campus despite earlier efforts to curb such activities, along with the reintroduction of compulsory handout sales, relaxation of the dress code and lapses in the enforcement of student identity cards.

According to the source, these lapses had contributed to a decline in discipline across the Polytechnic.

Responding to the allegations, Onimisi maintained that management was already investigating the claims through the Institution's disciplinary committee and assured that appropriate action would follow the outcome of the inquiry.

"The school management is aware of the allegations, and the disciplinary committee of the Polytechnic is already investigating them. The outcome will be made available to journalists in due course," he stated.
