Madonna University will celebrate academic excellence on Friday, 28 November 2025 as 1,800 students graduate at its 23rd Convocation Ceremony, with 120 of them earning first class honours.

The institution's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Casmir Anyanwu, described the impressive number of first class graduates as a reflection of the university's steady growth and commitment to excellence.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Professor Anyanwu said the event celebrates more than just graduands, noting that the management is honouring "a university that has made a quantum leap and has taken an important place in academic excellence, moral upbringing, and manpower development."

The Vice Chancellor highlighted a remarkable achievement that sets Madonna University apart, an uninterrupted academic calendar spanning 26 years since its founding.

"We have had an untruncated academic calendar for 26 years. We came to correct the anomalies of disrupted academic calendars caused by strike actions, and we have achieved that," Anyanwu stated.

He emphasised that the university has never embarked on any strike action, stressing that disruptions to academic activities remain unacceptable at the institution.

"This year, we are graduating 1,800 students. It means continuity, a seamless graduation process for 26 years. That is growth," he added.

Professor Anyanwu revealed that Madonna University has become an international brand through its membership in the International Federation of Catholic Universities.

He announced that the university's Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Prof. Martin Anagboso, was elected to the IFCU board of trustees, further boosting the institution's global standing.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that Madonna University is the only university in the South East and South South regions approved to benefit from TETFund, with all its engineering programmes receiving full accreditation.

Recent achievements highlighted by the Vice Chancellor include a 100% pass rate in both Registered Nursing Professional Examinations and Law.

Madonna University also made history as the first institution to produce eight Nursing students with Registered Public Health Licences.

The university has recorded significant infrastructural milestones over the past year, including:

A completed 60,000 capacity convocation arena, a multipurpose and innovation hall featuring an 8,000 capacity three in one international conference hall, and a CBT hall equipped with 200 computers.

Other completed projects include a College of Medicine building with multiple classrooms and 120 guest houses containing 250 rooms for postgraduate accommodation.

Professor Anyanwu urged the graduating students to uphold the strong moral standards instilled in them during their studies at the institution.

The 23rd Convocation Ceremony will take place on Friday, marking another milestone in the university's 26 year journey of uninterrupted academic excellence.
