The reigning Miss World Nigeria, Tamunosoye Karibi George, has appealed to the National Youth Service Corps to partner with her pet project to equip young Nigerians with entrepreneurial skills through fashion design training.

Karibi George appealed during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja. She disclosed that her skill acquisition initiative currently operates a training centre in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where young men and women receive hands on fashion design instruction and start up kits upon completion.

"Director General Sir, while in camp at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja in 2021, I participated actively in SAED training and this gave me the impetus to establish a fashion design centre in Port Harcourt," she stated.

She added that graduates of the programme receive start up kits rather than cash to ensure resources were channelled strictly into the businesses they were trained for.

Karibi George also requested approval for her team to visit NYSC Orientation Camps across Nigeria to motivate serving corps members to embrace skill acquisition. She used the occasion to invite the Director General, NYSC staff, and corps members to her national send forth ceremony, scheduled for 5th August 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

Responding, Brigadier General Nafiu commended the beauty queen for championing youth entrepreneurship and confirmed that the scheme was prepared to support her initiative. He noted that her efforts aligned with the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, introduced in 2012 to reduce graduate dependence on government employment.

"We encourage Corps Members to pick up at least one skill during the Orientation period and nurture same afterwards, in addition to the certificates they obtained from school, to have multiple streams of income," he said.

Nafiu congratulated Karibi George on her emergence as Miss World Nigeria 2026, succeeding Joy Mojisola Raimi, and encouraged her ahead of the 73rd Miss World Festival in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He described her participation in the global pageant as an opportunity to advance cultural diplomacy on behalf of Nigeria.
