Armed men stormed a secondary school in Borno State on Monday morning, abducting an unspecified number of students while they were sitting for a National Examinations Council Senior School Certificate Examination, killing one teacher and injuring another in the process.

The attack occurred at Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, where candidates were midway through their NECO examinations when the gunmen invaded the premises and whisked away several students.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident, disclosing that efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of students taken, as some candidates remained unaccounted for following the assault.

Security operatives have since launched a search and rescue operation to locate the missing students and restore calm in the affected community.

The attack has heightened concerns over school safety in the North East, where educational institutions have repeatedly come under threat from armed groups despite sustained security operations in the region.
