Taraba State University, Jalingo, has received approval from the National Universities Commission to commence 24 new undergraduate programmes beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session, following a resource verification exercise conducted by the commission.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Sunday Bako, disclosed this to journalists, noting that the institution now operates 76 fully accredited academic programmes in addition to the newly approved ones.
Bako explained that the fresh approvals were granted after NUC inspectors assessed the university's manpower and infrastructure and confirmed that the institution had the required resources to commence the programmes.
"We have already secured accreditation for 76 programmes. This is a fresh approval following resource verification. The NUC came to inspect the programmes and approved us to commence them because we have the required resources. After two years, they will return for accreditation," he said.
The vice chancellor recalled that when he assumed office in 2023, none of the university's existing programmes held valid accreditation, as all previous accreditations had expired. The institution subsequently presented the programmes for accreditation in batches until all 76 were fully accredited.
All 24 newly approved programmes will be offered on a full time basis at the university's main campus in Jalingo and will be presented for accreditation after two years of operation, in line with NUC guidelines.
"For manpower, they came and inspected both our personnel and infrastructure and were satisfied that we could commence the programmes. There is no requirement that we must start all the programmes simultaneously. We now have the approval. The Commission simply asked us to implement them at our own pace," Bako added.
