The National Youth Service Corps has assured 2,000 Batch B Stream I corps members deployed to Jigawa State of their safety throughout the service year, from the orientation camp to their final posting areas across the state.
The assurance was delivered by the Jigawa State NYSC Coordinator, Muhammad Baba, shortly after the swearing in ceremony held at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Orientation Camp in Fanisau on Monday, where Justice Amina Dahiru, representing the Jigawa State Chief Judge, administered the oath of allegiance to the new corps members.
Baba disclosed that security arrangements were put in place before the corps members arrived, during their camping period and after their posting to ministries, departments, agencies and local government areas across the state.
"From the border points, through transportation, to camp security and LGAs, we have worked with security agencies to ensure peace for every corps member," he stated, adding that the collaboration had positioned Jigawa as one of the safest states for national service.
The coordinator noted that registration for the batch was still ongoing, with 1,149 corps members documented at the time of the ceremony. "We expect the number to increase as more corps members arrive and complete their documentation before the end of the orientation period," he added.
Baba also issued direct warnings to corps members against cultism, drug abuse and involvement in partisan politics, stressing that the scheme maintained zero tolerance for such conduct. He further cautioned against late night movements, reckless use of social media and unauthorised travel outside the camp.
"Be good ambassadors of your families and institutions. Embrace the culture of your host communities and contribute meaningfully to development," he urged.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dahiru Aliya, representing the Jigawa State Police Commissioner, reinforced the security assurances, confirming that officers were stationed at the camp around the clock with patrol teams and intelligence units covering all local government areas where corps members would serve.
"We have put in place robust security arrangements towards ensuring security and a peaceful service year for all posted corps members in the state," Aliya affirmed.
Corps member Aisha Mohammed, posted from Niger State, acknowledged that her initial concerns had been addressed. "The assurances changed my perspective about serving in Jigawa," she revealed.
The ceremony was attended by security agency representatives, government officials, traditional rulers and members of the NYSC State Governing Board.
