The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has credited the stable security environment in Plateau State to the sustained efforts of the 3 Division Nigerian Army and Operation ENDURING PEACE, describing the prevailing conditions as critical to the successful running of NYSC programmes in the region.

Nafiu made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, at the Headquarters 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

The NYSC Director General noted that more than 7,000 corps members are currently serving in Plateau State, contributing to socio economic development through their primary assignments. He acknowledged that the discipline and professionalism demonstrated by officers and soldiers of the Division had played a significant role in shaping corps members into responsible citizens. "The Scheme cannot thrive in an insecure environment," he stated, adding that achievements recorded by the NYSC over the years had been made possible by the peaceful atmosphere provided by security agencies.

Nafiu further disclosed that security challenges had never forced the NYSC to suspend or cancel orientation exercises in states under the Division's jurisdiction, a record he attributed to the purposeful leadership of the GOC. He also highlighted the Scheme's contributions to health and education through the deployment of corps doctors, nurses, other healthcare professionals and teachers to underserved communities across the country, and reaffirmed the importance of national unity and inter tribal integration as core outcomes of the NYSC mandate. "We seek your continued support in providing an enabling environment for us to effectively discharge our mandate," he appealed.

Responding, Major General Oyinlola commended the Director General for the reforms and innovations introduced since his assumption of office. He specifically praised the initiative granting NYSC exemption certificates to Regular Combatant Officers pursuing higher academic qualifications, noting that the policy would enhance operational effectiveness and support their professional growth. The GOC described Nafiu as a disciplined and accomplished officer and a worthy ambassador of the Nigerian Army, expressing confidence in the continued progress of the Scheme under his leadership.

Oyinlola reaffirmed the Division's commitment to the safety and welfare of corps members serving within its area of responsibility. "Whether we like it or not, testimonies abound about the positive impact of the NYSC. Keep up the good work, and I am confident you will continue to take the Scheme to greater heights," he said.
