MTN Foundation Scholarship 2026: Application Guidelines

The MTN Foundation Scholarship Programme is one of Nigeria's most generous scholarship schemes, supporting high performing students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions since 2010. The scholarship is renewable annually until graduation, provided you maintain the required academic standards.

About MTN Foundation Scholarship Programme

MTN Foundation established its Scholarship Programme in 2010 to recognise and reward eligible high performing students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions. What makes this scholarship particularly valuable is its renewable nature once awarded, MTN Foundation continues supporting you annually until graduation, as long as you maintain the required academic standards.

MTN Foundation Scholarship Categories

MTN Foundation offers three distinct scholarship programmes:

1. MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (MTNF STS)

This scholarship targets students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses in Nigerian public universities, teaching hospitals, polytechnics, and colleges of education. It encourages excellence in science and technology education, fields critical to Nigeria's development.

2. MTN Foundation Scholarship for Blind Students (MTNF SBS)

Since 2012, this scholarship has supported blind students across all courses in Nigerian public tertiary institutions.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • 100 students awarded annually
  • ₦300,000 per student per year
  • Renewable annually until graduation
  • Open to 200 and 300 level students
  • Available for any course of study

3. MTN Foundation Top 10 UTME Scholarship

This category recognises exceptional performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), rewarding the top performing candidates.

Eligibility Requirements

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS)


Criteria Requirement
| Institution  | Nigerian public universities, teaching hospitals, polytechnics, colleges of education
| Course of Study  | Science and Technology-related courses (Engineering, Computer Science, Medicine, Pure Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, etc.)
| Level of Study  | 300 level students (for non-medical) OR 400 level students (for Medicine)
| CGPA - Universities/COE  | Minimum 3.0/4.0 or 3.5/5.0 (Second Class Upper)
| CGPA - Polytechnics  | Minimum 3.0 (Upper Credit) from OND, must have HND admission
| CGPA - Direct Entry  | Minimum 3.0 (Upper Credit) from OND, must have admission into 300 level in public university
| CGPA - Medical Students  | Minimum Pass grade or equivalent

Important Notes for STS:

The application is open to students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations and are proceeding to 300 level, as well as students currently in 300 level. MTN Foundation recognises that academic calendars are not aligned across all public tertiary institutions.

For medical students, the application is open to those who have completed their second semester 300 level examinations going to 400 level, and those currently in 400 level.

For polytechnic students, you must have completed your OND with at least Upper Credit (3.0 CGPA) and secured admission into the HND programme before you can apply.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS)

| CGPA - Polytechnics  | Minimum 2.0 from OND, must have HND admission

Special Note for Law Students:

For blind students studying Law (a five-year course), only 300 level students can apply. Students in 200 level Law are not eligible.

Scholarship Award Value

MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship: The specific annual amount varies and will be confirmed upon award. The scholarship is renewable annually until graduation.

MTN Foundation Scholarship for Blind Students:

  • ₦300,000 per student per year
  • 100 students awarded annually
  • Renewable annually until graduation

Renewal Conditions:

To continue receiving the scholarship in subsequent years, you must maintain the minimum required CGPA and remain enrolled as a full-time student in your institution.

Application Requirements

You will need to prepare the following documents before starting your application:

Academic Documents:

  • Admission letter from your institution
  • Current student ID card
  • Official academic transcript showing your CGPA
  • O'Level results (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB)

Personal Documents:

  • Valid means of identification (National ID, Voter's Card, or International Passport)
  • Recent passport photographs
  • Birth certificate or age declaration

For Blind Students:

  • Medical certificate or documentation confirming visual impairment
  • Letter from your institution's disability unit confirming your status

Financial Documents:

  • Bank account details in your name (for scholarship disbursement)
  • Bank Verification Number (BVN)

Supporting Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a lecturer or head of department
  • Personal statement explaining why you deserve the scholarship

Make sure all documents are clear, readable, scanned in the correct format (usually PDF or JPEG), and up to date. Incomplete applications are typically disqualified during screening.
