Nifemi Brown Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship 2026: Application Form

Good news for Nigerian undergraduates: the Nifemi Brown Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship has officially opened its fourth edition for 2026, and this time the programme comes with a fully funded, full ride structure, not just a partial grant.

If you're a Nigerian student looking to take the financial pressure off your education, here's everything you need to know before the August deadline.

What the Scholarship Covers

This is a genuine full ride award, and only two (2) scholars will be selected for the 2026 cycle, so competition will be tight. Coverage includes:

  • Full academic yearly tuition, as stated on the official university fees invoice

  • One paid yearly training or certification relevant to your course of study

  • Faculty and departmental fees (bundled into the official tuition invoice)

  • A named scholarship certificate

  • Recognition as an "NBF Scholar" on nbfafrica.org, Instagram, LinkedIn, and the NBF Annual Report

  • Access to the NBF student resource platform and book club community

Not covered: accommodation/hostel fees, feeding or living expenses, textbooks and stationery, transport/travel costs, or any fee not listed on the official tuition invoice. It's worth budgeting for these separately.

Eligibility

To qualify for the 2026 edition, you must meet all of the following; there are no exceptions for partial matches:

  • Nigerian citizen.

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate at a Nigerian university, polytechnic, or college of education, as of the application date. Incoming first year (100L) students who already have an offer of admission are also eligible.

  • Full time students; distance learning, part time, and sandwich programmes do not qualify.

  • Demonstrated financial need; your household income and financial situation must show genuine need, and you may be asked for supporting documents during review.

  • Good academic standing; you must not be under academic suspension, probation, or any disciplinary action at the time of application.

Required Documents

The following are documents needed to complete the application process.

  • Essay response: A properly structured Word document, 600 to 750 words. This is a core, heavily weighted part of your application.

  • Academic transcript or result slip: Your most recent official transcript. First year applicants who haven't yet sat university exams should submit their JAMB results and O-level results instead.

  • Letter of current enrolment: Confirming you're currently enrolled, or an offer letter if you're an incoming student.

  • Three distinct reference letters: On authentic letterhead paper, with referees who are contactable by email.

The Essay Prompt

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how work is done across industries, including yours. In 300 to 400 words, describe how AI is currently affecting or will affect your specific field of study, and explain what skills, knowledge, or approaches you are developing to remain relevant and valuable in that changing environment.

Be specific to your discipline; a general answer will not score well. This essay isn't a test of polished writing; it's meant to reveal how you think. NBF is explicitly looking for:

  • Specificity in discipline: Name your actual course and field, not generic statements

  • Concrete examples of AI's impact in your field now, or credible, empirically supported predictions

  • Personal voice: What you are actually doing or learning in response

  • Intellectual honesty: Acknowledging difficulty rather than giving a safe, polished non-answer

  • Original thinking: Reviewers read hundreds of essays and can spot a generic or AI written response instantly

Essays that only list AI tools without showing real understanding, or that could apply to any student in any field, will score poorly. Reviewers say they are specifically trained to recognise AI generated writing, so this one is best written entirely in your own voice.

Rules Worth Knowing Before You Apply

Keep these rules at the back of your mind before applying for the scholarship.

  • Truthfulness is mandatory: Misrepresenting your academic results, financial situation, or enrolment status leads to immediate disqualification, and if discovered after an award is made, the scholarship will be withdrawn.

  • Continued enrolment is required: Recipients must stay enrolled full time throughout the funded academic year. An unauthorised withdrawal, suspension, or transfer can result in the loss of remaining funds.

  • NBF's decisions are final: The selection panel doesn't provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants, and there's no appeals process.

  • Storytelling is encouraged, not mandatory: Scholars may be asked to share their story for NBF's newsletter, annual report, or social media, but this is optional, and anonymity is respected if requested.

If you're eligible, don't leave your reference letters or essay until the last week. Start drafting now, be specific to your discipline in that essay, and get your documents in well before the August 24 deadline.
