Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, has been honoured by Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) for her leadership and contributions to higher education and healthcare development in Nigeria. The recognition was conferred during OAU's 65th anniversary celebration, themed "65 Years of Excellence: Honouring the Past, Engineering the Future," which brought together prominent personalities from across the country.
As part of the commemorative activities, the institution honoured 65 distinguished Nigerians whose achievements and service have made significant impacts in their fields and on national development. Adejuyigbe, a renowned paediatrician, scholar and University administrator, received the award in the category of "Outstanding Leadership and Service."
According to the organisers, the honour recognised her stewardship at UNIMED and her commitment to advancing medical education, research and healthcare delivery. In a citation presented at the event, OAU noted that under her leadership, UNIMED has continued to consolidate its position as a leading institution for medical and health sciences education in Nigeria.
The citation read, "Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe has demonstrated exceptional commitment to strengthening medical training, promoting research innovation and fostering strategic healthcare partnerships. She remains passionate about improving healthcare systems through quality education, interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence based research."
Reacting to the honour, Adejuyigbe expressed gratitude to OAU's management, describing the award as both humbling and inspiring. "This recognition is not just an honour but a call to higher service. I am deeply grateful to Obafemi Awolowo University for finding me worthy of this recognition. It challenges me to remain committed to the pursuit of excellence, impactful leadership and the advancement of healthcare education in our country," she stated.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, who was represented by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale. Prof. Adebowale delivered the Special Anniversary Lecture titled "65 Years of Excellence: OAU and the Future of Nigerian Higher Education."
