The Nigerian Law School Bar Final Examinations have delivered a historic result for the University of Ilorin, with 16 of its law graduates earning First Class Honours, the largest number the Faculty of Law has produced in a single examination cycle.

The university's Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, confirmed the achievement in a statement issued to journalists in Ilorin on Thursday. He noted that 58 additional graduates earned Second Class Upper Division in the same examination.

Akogun described the result as a historic feat, pointing out that the previous best was recorded in 2023 when 10 law graduates of the institution achieved First Class in the Bar Finals.

"This is the first time in the history of the university and its Faculty of Law that such a large number of its graduates would make First Class in the Final Bar Examinations. The closest to this was in 2023 when 10 of its Law graduates bagged First Class," he disclosed.

He attributed the outcome to sustained improvements in academic delivery and the institutional leadership of Vice Chancellor Wahab Egbewole, who he noted had invested considerably in raising teaching and learning standards across the university.

Egbewole, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and member of the Body of Benchers, expressed pride in the result, describing it as a major milestone for both the Faculty of Law and the wider university community.

"This is a thing of joy not just for the Faculty of Law but also for the University in general," he remarked.

The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed confidence in the Faculty's ability to sustain high performance, noting its standing as one of Nigeria's best law faculties in terms of staffing, facilities, and service delivery.

"The feat reflects not only the individual industry, brilliance, discipline, and resilience of the Law graduates, but also the strong academic foundation and culture of excellence nurtured at the University," Egbewole stated.

He urged the graduating lawyers to uphold the values of the institution and serve as ambassadors of excellence in their professional careers.
