A senior finance scholar will take the podium at Achievers University on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, to interrogate who truly benefits from Nigeria's recurring bank recapitalisation policies, in what is expected to be one of the most timely academic engagements in the country's financial calendar this year.
Professor Adeboye Akanni Akinwunmi will deliver the Institution's 7th Inaugural Lecture, titled "Re Capitalisation in the Nigerian Financial System: For Whose Benefit?", at the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium, Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State.
The lecture is expected to draw academics, economists, banking professionals, policymakers, regulators, students and financial sector stakeholders from across Nigeria. It arrives at a moment of heightened national debate over banking reforms, capital requirements, economic sustainability, and financial inclusion.
Acting Vice Chancellor Oyesoji Aremu reaffirmed the Institution's commitment to promoting scholarship, critical inquiry, and national development through impactful academic engagements ahead of the event.
Stakeholders described the lecture as a significant intellectual contribution to policy discussions, noting that inaugural lectures represent one of the highest academic traditions in University life, providing professors with a platform to present years of research, professional experience, and contributions to knowledge before the wider public.
The 7th lecture is also expected to stimulate informed debate on the future of Nigeria's financial architecture at a period when economic reforms and sector stability remain central to national policy conversations. Top Government officials, captains of industry, financial experts, and dignitaries from across the country are expected to be in attendance.
The University's 6th Inaugural Lecture, titled "Bridging Uncertainty: Ensuring Cultural Safety Amid Climate and Environmental Change," was delivered by David Okpeyemi on Wednesday, 20 May 2023, at the same venue.
