The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has assured the management of Ajayi Crowther University of his backing, pledging to make royal facilities available to the Institution and committing to sustained peace in Oyo town during a formal visit by the University's leadership to his palace.
Vice Chancellor Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole led the delegation, which included the two deputy vice chancellors, the registrar, the bursar and the University librarian. During the visit, she briefed the monarch on the University's plan to introduce Medicine and Pharmacy courses, disclosing that the programme was at its final stage, and solicited support for medical facilities that would serve as a teaching hospital.
Oduwole also commended Oba Owoade for maintaining peace in Oyo town at a time when insecurity remained a challenge in many cities across the country.
The Alaafin received the delegation warmly, declaring that the palace gates would remain open to the Vice Chancellor and her team at all times and that the institution could count on royal support whenever the need arose.
Oba Owoade also disclosed plans to build a civic centre and hospital adjacent to the University's gate, promising that the Institution would be granted access to the facilities upon completion.
On the matter of security, the monarch confirmed that the palace was already collaborating with relevant agencies, with surveillance arrangements in place to ensure peace in the town was sustained.
Professor Afolake Olanbiwonninu, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Professor Olukayode Binuyo, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration; Registrar Dr Bode Olofinmuagun; Bursar Dr Ayodele Olusanwo; and University Librarian Dr Bosede Ajiboye were part of the delegation that accompanied the Vice Chancellor.
The visit formed part of the Vice Chancellor's ongoing effort to strengthen the town and gown relationship between Ajayi Crowther University and its host community.
