Comrade Alao John Oluwadamilola, a financial expert and former Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest, has been elected as the new National Financial Secretary of the association at the 2026 NANS National Convention.
Student Union Government presidents, delegates, and stakeholders across the student movement described his emergence as a triumph of competence, credibility, and tested leadership, noting that it marked a defining moment in the history of Nigerian student unionism.
Alao's political journey within NANS spans several senior positions. He previously served as a Students' Union Government President, Deputy Coordinator of NANS Southwest, Coordinator of NANS Southwest, and a two term Presidential Spokesperson of NANS. Stakeholders noted that across each of these roles, he demonstrated administrative strength, discipline, and a practical understanding of student leadership.
"Comrade Alao John's emergence is a product of years of visible contribution, sacrifice, and active involvement within student unionism," stakeholders stated, adding that his record had remained one defined by consistency and measurable impact across different levels of student representation.
Delegates and supporters expressed optimism that his election would bring renewed structure, discipline, and accountability to the financial administration of the association. They described his victory as a direct response to student demands for transparency and responsible stewardship in leadership.
"Widely regarded as a financial expert with strong administrative competence, Comrade Alao John brings into office the experience, discipline, and institutional understanding required for effective financial management within the Association," stakeholders affirmed.
They further noted that his emergence represented the collective decision of delegates across the federation to entrust responsibility to tested leadership, calling it a strong indication of positive institutional progress within NANS.
"A mandate has been given, a responsibility has been entrusted, and a new chapter of disciplined, transparent, and progressive financial leadership has begun within the National Association of Nigerian Students," they concluded.
