Fresh students preparing to take their matriculation oath at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, have been warned to expect sanctions if they participate in disorderly conduct during the ceremony, as the University moves to stamp out recurring misconduct that has marred previous events.
In a press release issued by management, AAU flagged specific behaviours it intends to clamp down on, including splashing water on fellow students, flogging with leaves cut from trees and engaging in disorderly parades both within and outside the campus. The University said monitoring measures have been put in place to ensure violators are identified and dealt with under its disciplinary regulations.
Of particular concern to management is the pressure that newly admitted students often face from older peers who push them into participating in such conduct. The University addressed this directly, urging fresh entrants to resist any form of intimidation or coercion and to report attempts to involve them in prohibited activities.
AAU reminded all students that matriculation is a formal academic ceremony governed by the institution's code of conduct, and that the expectation of orderly behaviour applies equally inside and outside the campus during the event.
For the incoming class stepping into University life for the first time, the warning carries a broader message about the culture AAU intends to maintain: that seniority does not confer the right to harass or intimidate, and that the university is watching.
