The Nigerian Army has announced a nationwide verification and screening exercise for children of deceased personnel under its education sponsorship scheme for the 2025 and 2026 academic sessions.
A statement shared on the Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) page on Thursday stated that the exercise would take place across the six geopolitical zones between February and March 2026.
The programme forms part of the Army’s welfare initiatives aimed at supporting the education of children whose parents lost their lives while in active service. It covers primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
According to the notice, the South South screening will hold from February 23 to 26, 2026, at the Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
In the South East, the exercise is scheduled for February 28 to March 3, 2026, at the Headquarters, 82 Division, Enugu, Enugu State. The South West session will take place from March 5 to 8, 2026, at the Headquarters, 82 Division, Ibadan, Oyo State.
For the North East, verification will run from March 11 to 14, 2026, at the Headquarters, Nigerian Army Armour Corps, Bauchi, Bauchi State. The North West exercise is fixed for March 16 to 20, 2026, at the Headquarters, 1 Division, Kaduna, Kaduna State.
The North Central zone and the Federal Capital Territory screening will be conducted from March 23 to 27, 2026, at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja.
Applicants have been advised to attend the exercise with all required documents.
These include a handwritten application letter listing the children's names, an admission letter with JAMB, where applicable, a recent school report or results, confirmation of studentship, birth certificate, and Part II order of birth.
Other documents listed are the death certificate and Part II order of death of the deceased officer or soldier, condolence letter, Notification of Casualty, two recent passport photographs of both the beneficiary and the deceased personnel, bank account details, phone number, school fee receipt, Bank Verification Number, and the first page of the bank statement showing the account name and number.
