The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Taraba State University branch (ASUU TSU), has called on the Taraba State Government to expedite the implementation of outstanding agreements, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, approved salary structure and other negotiated welfare packages, warning that prolonged delays could undermine the existing industrial peace at the institution.
In a statement issued on Thursday, ASUU TSU Chairman, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, acknowledged the progress recorded in implementing parts of the agreement but stressed that all outstanding obligations must be concluded within the agreed timelines.
Mbave disclosed that the National Executive Council of ASUU was closely monitoring state governments' compliance with agreements reached with university unions, particularly the implementation of CATA and other negotiated welfare packages.
"We wish to urge the Taraba State Government to conclude the implementation of the outstanding obligations within the applicable timelines to sustain the cordial industrial relations presently existing between the government and the union," he said.
On areas of progress, Mbave said the state government had approved the enrolment of Taraba State University staff into the Taraba State Defined Pension Scheme, with details of retired and deceased members already forwarded to relevant authorities. He noted that implementation would commence once the governor formally endorsed the approved memorandum.
The union chairman also confirmed that the state government released ₦500 million to offset outstanding salary arrears and Earned Academic Allowance following the suspension of the union's industrial action, with an additional ₦200 million released in July 2026 to sustain the payment process.
Mbave commended the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Mike Dio Jen, and the Head of Service, Dr Ahmed Hamidu Kara, for their roles in addressing staff welfare concerns, and acknowledged Governor Agbu Kefas for his commitment to staff welfare and constructive engagement with the union.
Despite the progress, the chairman noted that the approved salary structure, CATA, and other negotiated entitlements remained outstanding. He added that the National Universities Commission had communicated the 2025 Federal Government and ASUU agreement to visitors of state universities, including Taraba State University, for immediate implementation.
ASUU TSU reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement while pledging to continue monitoring compliance and pursuing lawful measures to protect members' welfare.
