Scholars, researchers, and students converged at Baze University, Abuja, for a high level edition of the British Council's flagship GREAT Talks Initiative, spotlighting opportunities to strengthen academic ties between Nigeria and leading United Kingdom institutions.

The symposium, which brought together participants from both countries, centred on fostering sustainable knowledge exchange and leveraging global partnerships to address pressing local challenges, particularly in the areas of energy and environmental sustainability.

Participants at the event underscored the importance of cross border research cooperation in tackling Nigeria's socio economic and environmental challenges, with papers presented during the sessions described as academically rigorous and relevant to national development priorities.

Professor Abdullahi Ahmed of the University of Manchester delivered a keynote address on "Renewable Energy Investment Decisions Under Climate Uncertainty," outlining strategies for managing financial and environmental risks associated with transitioning to renewable energy amid climate variability.

A second presentation by Dr Keiran Hunt of the University of Reading examined the application of artificial intelligence in forecasting weather driven electricity demand in Nigeria. The research highlighted the potential of AI driven solutions to enhance grid stability and improve energy distribution efficiency across the country.

An interactive plenary session allowed participants to engage directly with speakers on the practical applications of the research presented, with organisers noting that the strong turnout reflected a growing appetite for international academic collaboration.

Baze University's selection as host was attributed to its well established reputation for academic excellence and international engagement, reinforcing its standing as a preferred destination for high level intellectual exchange.
