The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the sponsorship of the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration for 400 pre degree and remedial students at the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BUAST), Ihugh.
The approval was announced during the governor's inspection of ongoing construction work on the hostels of the newly established university, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to delivering quality education to the people of Benue State.
The Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, made this known in a statement issued yesterday. According to the statement, Governor Alia emphasised that education remains a key driver of development and that his administration is committed to harnessing its potential to transform the state.
Chief Iorpev explained that the governor's sponsorship was designed to encourage students to pursue higher education and play active roles in the development of Benue State. Governor Alia stated that quality education is essential to the growth and development of the state, particularly in the areas of agriculture and entrepreneurship.
He stressed that his administration's focus on education is aimed at equipping the people of Benue, especially young people, with the skills and knowledge needed to compete in the global economy.
The governor also highlighted the recent launch of the Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Unenrolled Pupils (BRACE UP) project, which is designed to ensure that no child of school age remains out of school. He described the initiative as a critical component of his administration's efforts to promote education and reduce poverty in Benue State.
Governor Alia urged students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them, including the sponsorship of their JAMB UTME registration, to pursue their academic goals and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
