Postgraduate students of the University of Lagos Business School have undergone a practical industry engagement with Chevron Nigeria Limited, gaining firsthand exposure to supply chain operations in the upstream oil and gas sector.

The students, drawn from the institution's Urban Logistics and Transport Management programme, participated in a field session with Chevron's Supply Chain Management team, where they received direct insights into logistics execution, supply chain strategy, digital technology, safety practices and local content requirements.

Chevron's Manager of Communications, Victor Anyaegbudike, opened the session with an overview of the company's upstream operations, noting that the firm has operated in Nigeria for more than 60 years across various asset classes.

The engagement gave students direct access to supply chain leaders on subjects including materials management, marine logistics, sourcing decisions, fleet management and stakeholder expectations within Nigeria's operating environment.

Supply chain management adviser Olusola King told the students that effective supply chain management demands sound judgement, adaptability and disciplined decision making, particularly when navigating disruptions and operational constraints. She added that the company continues to strengthen control over inbound logistics through sourcing models designed to improve quality assurance, reduce customs related risks and ensure timely delivery of critical materials.

Company official Obianuju Okoro noted that digital technology now sits at the centre of supply chain efficiency at Chevron, with platforms deployed for procurement, inventory management, contracting, material tracking and automated replenishment. She added that dashboards, data analytics and emerging technologies are being used to improve visibility, anticipate demand and support faster decision making.

Officials Anamaria Ion and Tuokpe Etikerentse, speaking during a panel session, said compliance with Nigerian content requirements remains central to Chevron's contracting strategy, with dedicated sourcing opportunities supporting host community participation and local economic development.

Chevron's General Manager of Supply Chain Management, Marizu Nwokoma, a UNILAG alumnus, welcomed the students and urged them to pursue opportunities that strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.
