Serious questions are being raised over the sudden death of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Ogun State, as the scheme continues to maintain silence on the incident and has given no indication that any investigation is underway.

Adeleye Adeola Mary, a Batch B corps member attached to the Environmental Community Development Service (CDS) in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was found dead in her apartment on Thursday after friends could not reach her for more than 24 hours. She was buried the following day at a memorial Christian cemetery near Buhari Estate in Abeokuta, attended by her elder sister, two family members, and fellow corps members.

Two corps members who spoke on condition of anonymity said the circumstances remained deeply unclear. "I think she had died between Tuesday and Wednesday but her friend discovered her dead on Thursday. It was really traumatic. Her body had become swollen," one source said. "Was she attacked, poisoned, or something else happened to her? We don't know. She still had about seven months left to conclude her service year."

The second source noted that Mary lived alone in an isolated building with no neighbouring houses. "She might have had a health related attack without anyone in sight to help her out," the source said.

All attempts to obtain an official response from the NYSC proved unsuccessful. No statement appeared on the official X or Facebook pages of either the NYSC headquarters or the Ogun State office, and it remains unclear whether the cause of her death was established before interment.
