Yaba College of Technology has put its Students on notice over dress code violations, warning that repeated offenders could face suspension of up to one academic semester under a tiered disciplinary framework, the Institution says it intends to enforce strictly.

The warning was contained in a Circular released by the College's Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations and signed by the Deputy Registrar for Admissions. It applies to both newly admitted and returning students, and covers a detailed list of clothing styles and personal appearances that the Management has declared unacceptable within the campus environment.

Among the items specifically prohibited are backless clothes, bum shorts, short dresses, short skirts, jump tops, crop tops, off shoulder clothing and micro mini dresses. Sagging trousers were also flagged as inappropriate. Male students were warned against wearing earrings and told to avoid what the Circular described as crazy hairstyles, artificial dreadlocks, hair plating, weaving and braiding. Female students were cautioned against cowries, excessively coloured braids, coloured or tinted hair and related accessories. The use of nose rings, mouth rings, eye rings and multiple earrings was prohibited for all students.

The disciplinary process will be applied progressively. A first offence will result in advice, a second will attract a formal warning, and students who continue to violate the dress code may be suspended for one full academic semester.

The Management described the directive as a response to what it characterised as an increasing trend of indecent dressing observed among Students in recent times, and urged all members of the student body to present themselves in a manner consistent with the values and regulations of the institution.
