The National Universities Commission has approved the establishment of five new full-time undergraduate programmes at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session. The approval followed a resource verification exercise carried out by a panel of experts to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed courses.
In a letter signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, the newly approved Bachelor of Science courses at the University's main campus were listed as Intelligence and Security Studies, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence.
The Commission clarified that the approval covers only the full time mode of the programmes and does not extend to part time delivery for now, adding that the University must notify it for further processing and approval before commencing part time or postgraduate components of any of the approved courses. It further urged the institution to provide adequate human and material resources to support the effective development and growth of the new programmes.
The approval places ESUT among a growing list of Nigerian universities that have received similar clearance for technology focused programmes this admission cycle, with institutions including Federal University Lokoja and North Eastern University also gaining approval for courses spanning Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Science and related fields under the same signatory. At such institutions, approval has typically meant that prospective candidates can apply for the new programmes once they are uploaded onto the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Central Admissions Processing System, with existing applicants sometimes permitted to switch courses through the standard change of course process.
Under ESUT's general undergraduate admission requirements, candidates are expected to hold at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings, and must ordinarily be at least 16 years old by October 1 in their year of application, alongside any additional departmental requirements that may apply to the newly approved courses.
