The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has confirmed the Federal Government's full support for Baze University’s plan to establish a specialised Aviation University in Abuja.
This assurance was given during a recent visit by a delegation from the university led by its Chancellor, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed. The Minister noted that his main priority remains the protection of national interests and the advancement of Nigeria's development through such strategic partnerships.
According to an official statement, the Minister praised the Chancellor for his dedication to improving the quality of education in the country. He explained that the proposed institution is a perfect fit for Nigeria’s current goal to fill the shortage of technical skills within the aviation industry.
Keyamo further highlighted that the project would likely improve national connectivity and establish Nigeria as a premier hub for aviation training within the West African sub-region.
To ensure the project moves forward without delay, the Minister instructed the Permanent Secretary, Dr Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, to work alongside the university and relevant agencies to speed up the approval process.
Dr Kofarmata promised to make this project a top priority for the Ministry. He called it a vital step forward for Nigerian aviation.
At the meeting, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed thanked the Ministry for its support and talked about Baze University’s rapid growth since it opened in 2012.
He explained that the new Aviation University will offer specialised training in Aeronautical Engineering, Air Traffic Control, and Meteorology.
He added that students will also study tourism and healthcare, aiming to prepare graduates who can strengthen different parts of the national economy.
