Students of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, have been directed to begin applications for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund following the institution's successful enrolment into the scheme, a development the management described as a significant milestone for the young and rapidly growing university.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the university management and made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Esan, who advised students to visit the official NELFUND portal, create personal accounts, and complete their applications promptly.

"The successful enrollment of the University into the NELFUND scheme marks an important milestone for us as a young and rapidly growing institution," the statement read.

Management noted that the scheme would provide much needed financial support to students and improve access to quality education.

"This scheme is designed to ease the financial burden on students and enhance their ability to focus on their academic pursuits. We therefore urge all students to take advantage of this opportunity and complete their applications promptly," the statement added.

The university also extended appreciation to the Federal Government for including its students as beneficiaries of the initiative, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.

"We appreciate the Federal Government for this laudable initiative and for making our students beneficiaries. The University remains committed to providing an enabling academic environment while leveraging opportunities that promote students' welfare and academic success," management stated.

The NELFUND scheme, established under the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) Act, 2024, is an interest free loan initiative designed to support Nigerian students with tuition fees and monthly upkeep allowances, with repayment commencing two years after completion of the National Youth Service Programme.
