Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has established the Labe College of Nursing Sciences, Gboko, following the signing into law of the bill creating the institution in Gboko Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Alia signed the bill on Wednesday in Makurdi, describing the establishment as a demonstration of his administration's commitment to accessible, quality education and healthcare delivery. He stated that the college represents a strategic investment in the future wellbeing and prosperity of Benue State, going beyond a mere academic project.

The governor noted that the institution would serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for thousands of households while bringing specialised medical training closer to local communities. He added that the college would address the urgent need for skilled healthcare professionals across the state.

"This college will significantly enhance the local healthcare workforce, providing a steady stream of highly trained nurses and midwives. It will directly improve patient care, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, and strengthen community health services, particularly in rural areas," Governor Alia said.

He called on stakeholders, including prospective students, parents, community leaders, and the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, to embrace the opportunity with enthusiasm. The governor expressed confidence that the institution would reshape the healthcare landscape and contribute to a brighter and healthier future for Benue State.
