Professor Mohammed Isa Kida has assumed office as the fourth Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia. He officially took over duties on Wednesday, 11th February, 2026.
Isa Kida, a Professor of Accounting, was appointed after the expiration of the former Vice Chancellor, Shehu Abdul Rahaman's term.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, he said he was grateful for the opportunity and dedicated the appointment to God.
He described his emergence as a symbol of continuity, transition, and renewed hope for students whose academic goals are shaped within the institution.
The new Vice Chancellor acknowledged the responsibilities attached to the position and promised to operate an open door policy. He said his administration would focus on expanding access to higher education, encouraging research activities, supporting innovation, and contributing to national progress.
He noted that since its establishment over 10 years ago, the university has seen steady growth in academic courses, physical facilities, workforce strength, and enrolment figures.
“These feats were achieved through the visionary leadership of my predecessor and those before him, as well as the collective efforts of staff and students.
“The university will continue to rely on research to develop solutions to the challenges facing the country and to nurture future leaders intellectually, ethically and socially,” he said.
Isa Kida stated that he would build on existing progress, address identified weaknesses, and introduce reforms to strengthen the institution.
He added that his leadership would be inclusive, transparent, and evidence based, with careful use of resources. He said priority would be given to academic standards, relevant curriculum, collaborative research, and staff development.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, traditional leaders, and the host community for their support. He promised to justify the confidence placed in him.
In his remarks, Abdul Rahaman said he was confident that his successor would achieve greater success with the support of stakeholders and staff.
The Pro Chancellor, Lola Fibisola Akande, praised Abdul Rahaman for stabilising and developing the university. She wished him well in his future activities.
She congratulated Isa Kida on his appointment and expressed confidence that he would improve research output, strengthen academic programmes, and enhance staff welfare.
