The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will fully refund registration fees for blind, deaf, and wheelchair using candidates who possess the required five O'level credits at registration.
"To promote inclusivity, the Board fully refunds registration fees to the blind, the deaf and those on wheel chairs who possess the required 5 credits at the point of registration," JAMB stated.
This means candidates in these three categories meeting basic O'level requirements (five credits including English and Mathematics) will register and pay standard fees (₦7,200-₦8,700) but receive complete refunds.
Beyond fee refunds, JAMB announced comprehensive support for various disabilities including albinism, Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia, ADHD, amputees, paralysed candidates, cerebral palsy, and other physical disfigurements.
"Candidates with Albinism, Down Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD, Amputees, Lame, Paralysed, Cerebral Palsy disfigurements, are to indicate by clicking on the appropriate box so as to be identified and assigned to JEOG for special attention," the guidelines stated.
JAMB established JEOG (JAMB Equal Opportunity Group) centres equipped with specialised facilities and trained personnel to assist candidates during registration and examination.
Blind candidates select "BLIND" from a dropdown menu during registration, automatically assigning them to the closest JEOG centre.
For candidates whose physical conditions prevent standard fingerprint capture, JAMB made special arrangements.
"Candidates with biometric abnormalities can only register and take examination at the Abuja Headquarters of the Board. The Board will facilitate their travels," the statement noted.
This covers candidates with severe burns, congenital conditions, or amputations preventing normal fingerprint capture. JAMB will cover transportation to Abuja and use alternative verification methods.
While providing extensive support, JAMB emphasised academic requirements remain identical for PWD candidates. The five O'level credits for degree programs and four credits for ND/NCE apply equally.
UTME cut off marks and admission requirements are not reduced. The difference lies in support ensuring candidates can fairly demonstrate abilities without physical barriers.
Candidates pay standard registration fees, indicate disability status during registration, and upload proof of five O'level credits. JAMB verifies eligibility and processes automatic refunds, though the exact timeline wasn't specified.
Biometric verification is required on examination day for all candidates, including those with disabilities.
"Only candidates, whose biometric verification is successful on examination day would be permitted to sit the UTME or Mock," JAMB stated.
For candidates who registered at Abuja headquarters due to biometric abnormalities, alternative verification methods will be used.
JAMB's enhanced PWD support aligns with Nigeria's National Disability Act, international conventions on disability rights, and SDG Goal 4 calling for inclusive, equitable education.
JAMB's message: don't hide your disability. Support systems are in place, and indicating disability status during registration is key to accessing accommodations.
