Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, has scheduled an inaugural lecture by Professor T. Sombo, a Professor of Radiation and Health Physics, for Wednesday, 5th August, 2026. The lecture, titled Physicus Sanitatis: The Cherubim Safeguarding Man and His Planetary Home, will be held at the Aper Aku Auditorium, North Core of the Institution, with guests expected to be seated by 11:30 AM.

Management of the University extended an invitation to the general public, members of academia, and students to attend the event, describing it as an academic milestone that would be highly honoured by the presence of guests.

Prof. Sombo has served the Institution in academic administration beyond the classroom. He previously held the position of Programme Director for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme at the University, a role through which he coordinated a one year preparatory course designed to place successful candidates directly into 200 level across JUPEB affiliated universities nationwide, including JOSTUM itself.

The University where the lecture will take place carries a history tied to national honours. It was established in 1988 as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, following recommendations contained in a 1987 federal government White Paper on Higher Education Curriculum and Development in Nigeria. In 2019, the Federal Government approved its renaming to Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, in honour of the late Nigerian politician after whom it is now named. The Institution currently operates under the leadership of Professor Isaac Itodo as Vice Chancellor.

Inaugural lectures such as Prof. Sombo's form part of a long standing academic tradition at Nigerian Universities, in which senior professors present a comprehensive account of their research contributions to a wider audience of colleagues, students, and members of the public. Such lectures typically mark a significant point in an academic's career and often draw attendance from across the University community and beyond.

Members of the public interested in attending the 5th August lecture are expected to be seated ahead of the 11:30 AM start time at the Aper Aku Auditorium.
