Kaduna State University (KASU) is set to formalise an institutional partnership with the University of London through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on building capacity in digital and distance learning, following a high level engagement between the two institutions at a global education conference.
The Commissioner of Education, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Tuesday, revealing that a seven member Kaduna State delegation attended the 2026 edition of the Research in Distance and E Learning (RIDE) Conference held at the University of London. The delegation comprised five professors who engaged with global experts in digital, blended and distance education.
During the conference, the delegation engaged with the University of London Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE), a leading global hub, where it showcased the research presentation of KASU. Professor Sambo noted that the engagement opened pathways for institutional partnership between the two universities.
Under the MoU, a pilot Central Learning Management System (LMS) will be deployed at KASU as a model for scale up, and some academics will be trained in digital pedagogy and course delivery. Professor Sambo further disclosed that the two institutions will conduct joint research and academic exchange programmes, with CODE providing technical support for digital learning infrastructure.
The Commissioner noted that the conference validated ongoing reforms in the Kaduna State education sector, particularly the expansion of hybrid and Computer Based Test assessment systems. The RIDE conference also commended the strengthening of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) through digital tools and the drive toward equitable access via technology enabled learning, as well as efforts to reach out of school children through flexible and distance learning models.
The seven member delegation that attended the RIDE conference comprised Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, the President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Vice Chancellor of KASU Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, Professor Bello Ayuba, the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, Professor Yusha'u Ango, Deputy Vice Chancellor of KASU, Professor Usman Abubakar Zaria, Director General of KSSQAA, and Dr. Fatima Shehu Kabir, Director of the Institute of Education at Kaduna State University.
Professor Sambo affirmed that Kaduna State would accelerate the transition of its education system to a technology driven and globally competitive sector.
