Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the withdrawal of 229 students from its rolls following a review of first semester results for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the institution citing failure to meet established academic standards as grounds for the decision.
The resolution was reached at an Academic Board meeting held on May 12, 2026, presided over by the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime. Principal officers, deans, heads of departments and other board members attended the session, during which academic matters across the institution were extensively reviewed.
Acting Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, disclosed the outcome in a statement, confirming that the results were cleared for approval only after a thorough verification process.
"The approval of the results followed a rigorous and comprehensive verification exercise conducted by the Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee. The committee carefully scrutinised and authenticated submissions from various departments and schools to ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance with the Polytechnic's academic regulations," Onimisi revealed.
The 229 affected students span National Diploma 1 and 2, and Higher National Diploma 1 and 2 levels across multiple programmes, including Accountancy, Business Administration, Computer Science, Mass Communication, Public Administration, Science Laboratory Technology, Building Technology and others. The institution published the full list following the meeting.
Avidime commended the verification committee for its diligence and professionalism, noting that its work had continued to strengthen the polytechnic's academic integrity and uphold the quality of certificates awarded by the institution.
The board maintained that the withdrawals were carried out in the interest of sustaining academic excellence and in line with the polytechnic's regulations, adding that the measure was designed to encourage discipline and improved academic commitment among students across all programmes.
