Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, graduated 3,521 students on Sunday, with 306 earning First Class honours and Economics graduate Oluwapelumi Amosu emerging as the overall best student with a CGPA of 4.96. She received a ₦10m prize for her academic performance.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, delivered the convocation lecture titled "Breaking New Grounds," charging the graduating Class of 2025/2026, christened the "Nova Class," to embrace courage, resilience and innovation as they entered professional life.

"The world does not automatically reward potential. It rewards preparation, value, consistency and the courage to create opportunities. You must demand excellence of yourselves every single day," Sanwo Olu stated.

The governor contrasted his own graduation from the University of Lagos in 1988 into an analogue world with the digital age the Nova Class inherited, noting that today's graduates carry in their pockets access to information and opportunities that his generation could not have imagined. He maintained, however, that the fundamental challenge across generations remained unchanged.

"Accept the world as it is, but never stop working to shape it into what it can become. Every generation inherits its own realities. Greatness belongs to those who embrace those realities and transform them into opportunities," he said.

Drawing from his experience as governor, Sanwo Olu recalled navigating the COVID 19 pandemic barely nine months into office and the destruction wrought by the #EndSARS protests, describing both as defining tests of leadership that reinforced the value of expert counsel, evidence based decisions and resilience.

"There will be disruptions. There will be disappointments. There will be setbacks. There will also be moments of triumph. Whenever you fall, rise again," he urged the graduates.

The Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, congratulated the graduating students and urged them to deploy their knowledge and skills in service to the world, assuring them that the university would continue to invest in building a stronger and more impactful institution.
