The Faculty of Education at Lagos State University will host its 2nd Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Makanjuola Hall, with discussions centred on the state of Nigeria's education system and the case for urgent curriculum reform.
The lecture, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., will be delivered by Professor Clement Fasan under the theme "Reshaping Education in Nigeria and Securing a Better Future: The Imperatives of Curriculum Reforms and Stakeholder Engagement."
Fasan brings considerable academic and policy experience to the assignment. A former Dean of the Faculty of Education at LASU, he served as a member of the Nigerian delegation to the UNESCO Conference held in Paris in 2015 and was a Visiting Professor on sabbatical at the University of Ottawa, Canada, from 2018 to 2019.
The lecture is anticipated to provide a SWOT analysis of Nigeria's education system, exploring its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. It will also emphasise the need for increased stakeholder participation in guiding the sector's future. The Faculty of Education characterised the event as a timely intellectual contribution designed to encourage discussions on how to realign education for the country's development.
Academics, policymakers, students, education stakeholders, and members of the public are expected to attend and participate in discussions on the challenges and prospects facing the Nigerian education sector.
The Faculty extended an open invitation to all interested participants to attend the event at Makanjuola Hall, Lagos State University.
