The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, has firmly rejected social media reports claiming the institution was shut down over fears of a bandit invasion, insisting that students remain on campus and are actively sitting their examinations.
The denial came on Tuesday through an official statement signed by the institution's Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, describing the closure reports as entirely without merit.
"This is to strongly debunk the rumour making the rounds that the Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, has closed down the University for fear of invasion by bandits," the statement read.
"This is to inform our students, their parents and guardians that there is no immediate reason for management of LAUTECH to close down the University, therefore the University is still in session. As a matter of fact, our students are correctly writing their examinations, and the exercise continues tomorrow. Management regrets whatever inconvenience this unfounded rumour may have caused."
The clarification came amid heightened tension in Ogbomoso following reports of palpable fear among residents over the alleged movement of suspected kidnappers through some communities in the area.
The anxiety followed a series of attacks in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday at 9:30 a.m., during which scores of teachers and students of Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, were abducted in coordinated strikes.
The Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH, Olalekan Fadeyi, who released the statement on behalf of the Registrar, emphasised that there was no basis for the closure reports and urged students, parents and guardians to disregard the circulating information.
The management stated that academic activities were ongoing and that examination schedules would continue as planned into Wednesday, reinforcing that security concerns had not disrupted institutional operations.
