The National Association of Nigerian Students has stepped into the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in the disbursement of Nigeria Education Loan Fund allocations at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, assuring affected students that full refunds will be secured and all excess funds returned to NELFUND.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, disclosed in a statement on June 24, 2026, that the polytechnic's management had reached out to initiate a resolution and that the association had taken full charge of the matter. He stated that any settlement would be assessed strictly on whether it served the interests of the students concerned.
Afeez revealed that he had received a series of calls from relevant authorities in the hours following his earlier publications and address to President Bola Tinubu on the alleged infractions, and that considerable progress had already been recorded. He confirmed that a formal meeting between NANS leadership and the institution's management would be held shortly to ensure all anomalies were corrected.
The student leader urged affected students at the polytechnic to remain calm and avoid taking hasty actions that could complicate or delay the refund process. "I call on all the affected students of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic not to hurriedly take actions that may further complicate or frustrate the refund process, as the apex leadership has taken full charge of the matter to ensure that the anomalies are corrected," Afeez stated.
He also assured the broader student community that NANS would provide regular updates as engagements with the management progressed. "As your President, I want to assure you that I shall never compromise on matters affecting your welfare. You are not alone; you have the leadership of NANS at your service, and we will continue to speak for you and represent you diligently," he added.
Afeez reaffirmed the association's commitment to ensuring that the purpose of the student loan scheme was not undermined by institutional misconduct, and pledged that all excess funds collected from students would be returned to NELFUND upon the conclusion of the review process.
NANS called on students to trust the process and remain patient as the association continued to engage the polytechnic's administration on their behalf.
