The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has drafted National Youth Service Corps members into its frontline drug abuse prevention network in Edo State, training them as community educators equipped to tackle substance abuse at the grassroots level.

The one day Train the Trainer seminar took place at the NDLEA Edo State Command Headquarters in Benin City on Thursday, 14 May 2026, bringing together members of the NYSC Drug Free Club from Egor Local Government Area for a structured session covering drug identification, prevention strategies, and community advocacy.

The NDLEA Edo State Commander, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, received the delegation and outlined the agency's expectations from the trained corps members, stressing that their position as young people embedded in local communities made them uniquely placed to influence attitudes toward drug use among their peers.

Ofoyeju delivered a lecture titled "Drug Use Among Youth: A Global Perspective," examining how substance abuse has affected young populations worldwide and the urgent need for coordinated prevention efforts at every level of society.

In a symbolic recognition of the club's commitment to the cause, Ofoyeju officially decorated the President of the NYSC Drug Free Club, Pharmacist Patience Ichin, as a War Against Drug Abuse partner during the event.

The Head of Counselling, Treatment and Rehabilitation for the command, Deputy Commander of Narcotics Hope Aigbogun, addressed participants on their role as peer educators, delivering a session titled "Indispensable Role of NYSC Drug Free Club Members in Drug Abuse Prevention."

A drug exhibition session also formed part of the programme, during which participants were shown various controlled substances alongside documented evidence of their harmful effects on the human body and wider society.

Club members departed the session with copies of the NDLEA Edo State Command magazine to support their advocacy work in the communities where they are currently serving.
