New City University, Ayetoro, has officially launched its academic journey in Ogun State, marking the historic matriculation of 35 pioneer students. This milestone follows the formal approval of its operational license by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
During the ceremony, Pro Chancellor Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye unveiled a bold roadmap to transform the institution into a global centre of excellence. The university aims to expand its student population to 6,000 while introducing high impact programs in Engineering and Medicine.
The institution’s journey began in 2019, evolving from a specialised institute concept into a full fledged university. After rigorous regulatory scrutiny, it secured its provisional license in April 2025, signalling a commitment to top tier educational standards.
The university currently operates with five approved faculties. Plans are already in motion to establish a Faculty of Law and specialised Chemical Engineering programs designed to provide expert manpower for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
In a major move to reward excellence, Founder Hon. Akin Akingbesote pledged that students graduating with a First Class CGPA will receive a full tuition refund. This incentive also applies to those who qualify as chartered accountants during their studies.
To ease the financial burden on families, the university has adopted a flexible tuition policy. Parents are permitted to pay fees in instalments throughout the academic session, ensuring broader access to quality tertiary education.
Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Joseph Olagunju confirmed that current programs span Communication, Basic Medical Sciences, Computing, and Management. He noted that the Faculty of Law is slated to officially take off in the 2026/2027 session.
The Vice Chancellor issued a stern warning against cultism, violence, and examination malpractice. He emphasised that the university is built on a foundation of integrity and will enforce strict disciplinary measures to maintain high moral standards.
JAMB’s Ogun State Director, Alhaji Abdurahim Ahmed, reminded the management that all admissions must remain fully automated. He stressed that any enrollment conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) is strictly illegal.
The ceremony highlighted strong industry ties, with endorsements from the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and major financial partners. These collaborations are intended to provide students with a direct link to the professional world.
Prof. Akinfeleye urged the pioneer students to act as disciplined ambassadors of the new institution. He assured parents that the university is dedicated to providing a secure and innovative environment for leadership development.
