Professor Segun Aina takes over as Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Friday, formally succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure at the helm of the examination body expires on July 31.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Aina to the position, a decision confirmed in a statement by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The Presidency described Aina as one of Nigeria's youngest Professors of Computer Engineering, adding that he would become the youngest Registrar in JAMB's history.

The handover ceremony will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, by 10am, with JAMB confirming a live broadcast on its official social media platforms. In a notice issued Wednesday, the Board invited the public to witness what it termed a significant milestone in its leadership journey. "Join us for the live broadcast of the official handover ceremony as Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the outgoing Registrar of JAMB, formally hands over to Prof. Segun Aina," the announcement read.

Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside a Master's degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School and currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where his expertise spans digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reforms.

The Presidency revealed that Aina brings more than 15 years of experience advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, institutional reforms, and systems design. He has also consulted for examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, focusing on ICT systems and examination integrity.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would build on the reforms achieved under Oloyede's administration while strengthening the Board's operations going forward. The incoming Registrar's appointment closes out a tenure that positioned Oloyede as one of JAMB's most prominent leaders, with Friday's ceremony formally opening a new chapter for the examination body.
