The National Examinations Council has secured a commitment from the National Open University of Nigeria to integrate its electronic result verification platform into the university's admission processes beginning with the 2026 cycle.
Professor Dantani Wushishi, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, visited Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, NOUN Vice Chancellor, in Abuja on Tuesday to discuss collaboration on result authentication and computer based testing expansion.
Wushishi disclosed that nearly five million results had been verified electronically since NECO launched the eVerify system two years ago, transforming what was previously a manual process that took months to complete requests from institutions in over 50 countries.
He urged NOUN to integrate its admission processes with NECO's Application Programming Interface to automatically confirm the authenticity of candidates' results without their knowledge.
"With the API integration, institutions can seamlessly confirm the authenticity of candidates' NECO results without delay," Wushishi stated.
The NECO Registrar, who congratulated Uduma on his appointment and described him as "a seasoned administrator with proven academic integrity," explained that the visit had three objectives, including formally felicitating with the Vice Chancellor and exploring collaboration on result authentication through NECO's eVerify platform.
He also identified NOUN's extensive Computer Based Examination infrastructure as another area for partnership, noting that NECO was aligning with the Federal Ministry of Education's policy to migrate fully from paper based to computer based examinations.
Professor Uduma welcomed the proposed collaboration and stressed that result verification remains fundamental to protecting academic integrity.
"Any certificate that is not verified has no integrity. We must verify every certificate, and we will collaborate with you on results verification," Uduma emphasised.
He assured NECO of the University's commitment to adopting the eVerify platform from the 2026 admission cycle, revealing that NOUN admits approximately 40,000 students annually, making robust verification systems essential.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the University would begin integrating NECO's eVerify platform starting from its first batch of 2026 admissions, committing to verifying all NECO results through the electronic system.
He highlighted NOUN's capacity to support NECO's objectives through its nationwide presence, disclosing that the university operates approximately 128 study centres across Nigeria.
"Most importantly, there is no other University that has our spread. We have approximately 128 study centres across the nation. That means, with our CBT capacity and our ICT capacity, you can be sure that we will help to give integrity and respite to what you are doing," Uduma noted.
He announced plans to immediately constitute a committee comprising academic and ICT officials to interface with NECO on implementing the collaboration.
