The National Universities Commission has approved 10 new postgraduate programmes at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, expanding the institution's academic offerings to cover security, law, science and business disciplines.

The approval followed a resource verification visit by an NUC assessment team, which evaluated the Academy's facilities, learning materials and faculty readiness before clearing the programmes for takeoff.

All 10 approved programmes will run on a full time basis and are open not only to police personnel but also to officers from other security and intelligence agencies as well as members of the general public seeking advanced qualifications in relevant fields.

The approved programmes span a broad range of disciplines. In the security and governance category, the Academy will offer a Master's in Crime Management, Prevention and Control, alongside Postgraduate Diplomas in Crime Management Prevention and Control, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Police Studies.

Professional and business programmes include an MBA in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, as well as Postgraduate Diploma and MSc options in Management Studies.

The remaining programmes cover legal and scientific fields, with Postgraduate Diploma and MSc qualifications available in Law, Biochemistry, Financial Economics and Forensic DNA.

The inclusion of Forensic DNA and Financial Economics reflects a deliberate effort to align the Academy's postgraduate curriculum with emerging areas of security practice and financial crime investigation, broadening its relevance beyond conventional police training.

The Nigeria Police Academy stated that details on application deadlines, entry requirements and registration portals would be made available to the public shortly.

The development marks a significant expansion of postgraduate education within Nigeria's security sector and positions the Wudil institution as a broader academic destination for professionals seeking specialised advanced degrees.
