The administrative leadership of the University of Benin has held an official briefing with the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, to outline the strategic execution plan for a 100 billion Naira endowment pool. Operating under the institutional title of the UNIBEN Trust Development Fund, the massive financial mobilization campaign aims to secure alternative capital streams to ensure long term academic growth and facility expansion.
Campus spokesperson Dr Benedicta Ehanire confirmed through an official dispatch that the high level delegation in Abuja included the University Pro Chancellor Professor Umaru Shuaibu, the Board of Trustees Chairman for the development fund Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, and the University Vice Chancellor Professor Edoba B Omoregie. The consultative visit served to finalize logistical arrangements and formally present the ministerial invitation for the grand launching ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday July 4 2026.
Board leadership stated that the fundraising drive serves as a direct response to policy directives issued by the federal ministry challenging institutional heads to diversify their economic foundations. The board chairman explained that the university administration accepted the task of mobilizing former scholars, multinational corporations, and global stakeholders to build a sustainable independent financing model. Financial updates from the sector indicate that creating separate endowment structures reduces the heavy operational pressure placed on central treasury allocations.
Government representatives reacted to the presentation by praising the swift implementation of the sustainability guidelines by the campus leadership. The education minister commended the administration for taking bold steps to transform local campus financing and requested that invitations be extended to other institution heads across the country to witness the operational blueprint. Ministerial executives promised to attend the event in person, noting that the successful execution of the model provides a standard template for other federal tertiary setups to emulate.
The university governing council expressed appreciation to the central authority for maintaining steady support throughout the ongoing educational restructuring exercises. Administrative planners revealed that the upcoming July launch will gather top tier state administrators, corporate chiefs, prominent alumni networks, and industrial stakeholders to secure commitments for the endowment pool. The agency announced that the collaborative funding framework will prioritize modernizing research infrastructure, updating learning tools, and creating sustainable student welfare programs.
