For the first time in many years, every degree programme offered by the University of Benin has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, marking a significant milestone for the institution and its academic community.
The development was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the university's Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire, following the release of accreditation results in a letter dated April 7, 2026, addressed to the Vice Chancellor.
The full accreditation status, valid for five years until 2030, was achieved after a successful accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission in October/November last year across faculties, schools and centres within the university.
Vice Chancellor Professor Edoba Omoregie attributed the outcome to the hard work and commitment of management and staff to academic distinction, while promoting high educational ideals and values.
The Vice Chancellor also applauded the university's Senate, faculties, departments and relevant committees who worked assiduously with the objective of ensuring due diligence and adherence to the requirements for full accreditation.
Omoregie equally reiterated his commitment to strengthening the university's undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes as outlined in his five point agenda, signalling that the accreditation success was only the beginning of broader academic reforms at the institution.
The NUC accreditation covers all programmes across the university's faculties, schools and centres, consolidating UNIBEN's standing as one of Nigeria's foremost institutions of higher learning.
