The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged store officers across the scheme to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and adherence to due process in handling government property.

Brigadier General Nafiu made the call at the 2026 Store Officers' Workshop held in Abuja, where he emphasised that efficient store administration remained fundamental to the overall success of NYSC programmes nationwide.

The Director of Information and Public Relations of the NYSC, Caroline Embu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Store officers play a crucial role in managing the vast inventory of equipment, materials and assets required to support the operations of the scheme across its numerous orientation camps and secretariats nationwide. Their responsibilities include procurement oversight, inventory management, distribution of materials and ensuring accountability in the handling of government resources.

The workshop brought together store officers from across the country to review best practices, share experiences and receive updated guidelines on store management protocols. The gathering also provided an opportunity for officers to align their operations with the strategic objectives of the NYSC under the current leadership.

Brigadier General Nafiu's remarks underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in public service, particularly in the management of resources meant to benefit Nigerian youths participating in the mandatory national service programme.
