Corps members serving under the 2026 Batch B Stream I have been directed to avoid political campaigns, rallies and any activities that could associate them with a political party, as the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps reaffirmed the scheme's apolitical stance.
Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu issued the directive while addressing the batch at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja, where he outlined expectations for conduct throughout the service year.
"Do not get involved in the campaign of any political party. Don't mix NYSC with politics. You should stay clear of politics," he stated.
Nafiu also cautioned corps members on their use of social media, warning that offences such as cyberstalking, cyberbullying and cyber fraud carried serious consequences. "If you are found guilty, you will face the consequences. Be careful about the way you use social media," he added.
The Director General urged corps members to approach the service year with discipline and financial prudence, encouraging them to cultivate a savings culture and resist negative influences that could undermine their futures.
He also drew attention to the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, urging corps members to take full advantage of it alongside investment opportunities available through the capital market. The formal launch of the NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme in Lagos was highlighted as part of efforts to build financial literacy among serving corps members.
"It is a programme designed to empower you with financial knowledge and investment capacity. It will also enable Corps Members to make informed financial decisions," he disclosed.
Nafiu further encouraged corps members to use the service year as an opportunity to forge lasting friendships across cultural and ethnic divides, describing this as central to the scheme's broader mission of promoting national unity and integration.
The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christianah Salmwang, told the Director General that the camp recorded a total of 9,955 corps members, including those conducting their orientation in other states, and commended them for the enthusiasm, discipline and readiness they had displayed since the commencement of the orientation course.
